Ryder Cup

It's been months since I've been here, so I've missed celebrating recent sporting successes from the Coleraine area.
As that's the case, I'm now going to celebrate the Ryder Cup.

What's the connection with Coleraine?
Well, the man in the centre in the photo, Darren Clarke, lives in Portrush, a few miles from Coleraine.  And he's a Vice-Captain of the European Ryder Cup team.
The man on the right, Graeme McDowell, was born and brought up in Portrush - and learned to play golf there.  Two years ago he was the person who, at the last moment, won the Ryder Cup for Europe.  To-day he had the honour of playing the first shot in the current competition.
The man on the left, Rory McIlroy, is currently the World No 1 golfer.  Although he's not from this area, he is from Northern Ireland.

I'm delighted to say that McDowell and McIlroy won their match to-day - once again by McDowell playing the final stroke.
